Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Red Wigglers and your worm castings?
Our worms are what make our castings. Choose Red Wigglers to turn your own food waste into castings at home, and choose Red Wiggler Worm Castings when you want ready-to-use castings without raising worms.
How fast will my worms multiply?
Each worm has both male and female organs and can produce about 3 cocoons a week. In favorable conditions, each cocoon hatches 2-4 worms after about 23 days, and those babies are ready to lay cocoons of their own after about 6 weeks.
Do Red Wigglers need to be refrigerated?
No. Red Wigglers can survive in water temperatures from 40-100°F and don't need to be refrigerated.
How much can they eat?
Red Wigglers can eat about half their body weight in a day, so 2 lb of worms can recycle about 1 lb of organic matter every 24 hours.
What should I do when my worms arrive?

How are live worms shipped, and what does FOB Hutchinson mean?
You can pick up your order at our Hutchinson, KS facility, or we can arrange shipping. FOB (Free on Board) Hutchinson means ownership and responsibility pass to you once the carrier picks up and signs for the order at our dock. From that point you own the product in transit, and any freight damage claims go through the carrier. [ADD: live-arrival policy and any weather or shipping-day restrictions]
